Blackberry Avocado jam Smoothie Bowl

I know it's been a long time since I've actually posted a recipe to a smoothie bowl of mine. I made this delicious blackberry avocado smoothie bowl with JAM and foraged kumquats for breakfast and it was too good not to share.

on foraging

I was in Ventura this past weekend and found a kumquat tree right outside the grocery store. I spotted it and went ALL IN and started picking these sweet and tart little babes by the handful. Pretty soon two other people came over to me and asked what I was doing... and then we all started foraging the kumquats!

"how do you find the time?"

Many people ask me where I find the time to make such "time consuming" breakfasts. I find this a very good question because to me, it's only natural- but I do realize that it's not 'normal' for everyone and some people may struggle to find the time!

I've been obsessed with food my whole life, and breakfast especially. There is really nothing that better fuels my motivation to workout or getting out of bed than a beautifully decorated, homemade breakfast. I swear the food tastes better when you take the time to make it yourself.

I find the time to create breakfast for myself because it is the biggest way to show some self-love first thing in the day. I find it super peaceful to take the time to feed myself a nourishing breakfast each day, either alone, or better yet, with loved ones. Once it is finished, I feel proud of myself for taking the time to do so. It also makes me extremely happy to create something that is so pleasing to the eye, and pleasing to my body as well. I can almost feel my body saying, 'thank you!' with each bite that I take. I also find intense amounts of joy in posting photos of my breakfasts with my followers. It makes me happy to know that other people are recreating their very own at home and taking the extra time to begin their day in a high vibrational, healthy, superfood-packed way.

I also have yet to find a restaurant or cafe that serves a better breakfasts than the ones I make myself. I end up saving a lot of money because I save so much money cooking in for almost every meal. Eating out is such a rarity to me. I always prefer to dine in so I know exactly what is going into my food.

The definition of loving yourself.

The definition of loving yourself.

All of these factors combine in me putting my body / mind first in all aspects of life. For such a long time, I put my physical health first and foremost without really thinking about my emotional wellbeing. As I grow older, I realize the importance of putting my mental and emotional well being just as high - if not higher, than my physical. It's a journey for sure, and one that I feel honored to share with such a loving, vivacious community.

recipe

Now let's get to the food! This bowl is extra creamy and lower in sugar since there is only one banana used throughout the recipe. I add 1/4 cup frozen avocado to give it depth and ice-cream texture, but you can also use freshly cut avocado as well.

Base:

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 cup coconut milk (I used Pacific Organic Coconut Non Dairy Beverage)

  • 1 tbsp shredded unsweetened coconut

  • dash cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup frozen sliced avocado

  • 1 cup blackberries

  • 1 tsp maqui powder

Blend ingredients in a high speed blender or food processor until you achieve a thick, pudding-like consistency. Pour into a bowl.

Toppings:

You can really add whatever you have on hand here, but I added the following:

  • goji berries

  • chia seeds

  • hemp seeds

  • bee pollen

  • raw activated almonds

  • sliced figs

  • coconut shreds

  • edible flowers

  • blueberry jam

  • bananas

  • foraged kumquats

  • pumpkin seeds

  • sesame seeds

Hope everyone has a beautiful day!
